Learning languages

YiCi teaches English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, German and French. Pick one during onboarding and switch any time in Settings → Learning language. Each language keeps its own books, progress and daily deck. The Chinese course is for learners of Chinese and uses English glosses. Widgets follow the app by default; long-press a widget, choose Edit Widget → Language to pin it to one language.

Add widgets

1. iPhone Home Screen: long-press an empty area, choose Edit → Add Widget (or the plus button on older systems), search for 一词, choose a size and add it.
2. Lock Screen: long-press, choose Customize → Lock Screen and add YiCi below the clock or in the inline date area.
3. StandBy: enable StandBy in system settings, place a supported iPhone horizontally while charging, then long-press a widget stack to add YiCi. Display behavior varies by device.
4. Mac: right-click the desktop, choose Edit Widgets and search for YiCi. Open the Mac app to use its menu-bar word.

Widgets work with defaults before the first app launch. Change the word book, pace and rotation in the app. Refresh timing is controlled partly by the operating system.

Speech

Check media volume and headphones, then try speech in word details. YiCi uses on-device system voices for each language, with no microphone, recording or third-party speech service. If a language is silent, download its voice under system Accessibility → Spoken Content (or Read & Speak) → Voices. For English you can also choose the accent and voice in YiCi. Once installed, speech works offline.

Interactive Home Screen and StandBy cards speak without opening the app. Compact Lock Screen widgets mainly display content and open details. Watch speech opens the Watch app.

Sync and Watch reminders

Offline vocabulary and examples need no internet. Optional iCloud sync requires the same iCloud account, connectivity and available storage. Check YiCi's sync switch and system iCloud permissions. Your private CloudKit records are not accessible to the developer. No ads, analytics or tracking are used.

Enable Watch study reminders and notification permission in the Watch app. Check study moments, quiet hours and Focus settings. Notifications are local; opening the Watch app can refresh its schedule. Background scheduling is controlled by the system.

Export, reset and delete

1. On iPhone, 设置 → 进度与数据 → 导出进度 (Settings → Progress and Data → Export Progress) saves JSON containing settings, progress and local action history. Import Progress can restore it. Keep the file private.
2. Reset Learning Progress removes progress, favorites and decks, and queues the deletions for sync if enabled. Settings and action history remain; a new deck may be created.
3. For full erasure, disable YiCi sync on every device, remove widgets and quit the apps. Under system Apple Account → iCloud → Manage Storage, delete YiCi data if listed. Menu wording varies by OS version.
4. Remove local copies on every device. On iPhone use Delete App, not Offload App; also delete the Watch app. On Mac, removing the application alone does not erase its sandbox and App Group learning data; email for help identifying YiCi-only storage without sharing its contents.
5. Delete exported JSON from Files, iCloud Drive, backups or other locations separately. Disabling sync and removing an app do not by themselves erase iCloud records or exports.

Decide whether to keep a backup first. The developer cannot erase private iCloud records on your behalf. Reinstalling and enabling sync may restore copies that remain.
